“Gotta Have Faith”: The New George Michael Film Celebrating a Pop Legend
A newly announced film celebrating the music and legacy of George Michael is set to arrive in cinemas in 2026, giving fans a rare look at the pop icon during one of the most important moments of his career. Titled George Michael: The Faith Tour, the long-lost concert film captures performances from Michael’s legendary 1988 world tour and features previously unseen footage that has now been restored for the big screen.
The film centers on Michael’s historic Faith Tour, his first major solo tour after achieving worldwide fame in the 1980s. The tour followed the release of his hugely successful album Faith, which produced several number-one hits and earned widespread critical acclaim. The album went on to win Album of the Year at the 1989 Grammy Awards and helped establish Michael as one of the defining pop artists of his generation.
The newly restored movie is built from footage filmed during two concerts at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris in May 1988. The shows were originally captured with a sophisticated 14-camera setup on 35mm film, but the material remained largely unseen for decades. For the upcoming release, the footage has been carefully restored and remastered, allowing audiences to experience the performances with modern cinematic quality.
Longtime collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin, who worked closely with Michael during his career, directed the project. The film is being produced by George Michael Entertainment and Mercury Studios, with plans for a worldwide theatrical release later in 2026.
In addition to the film, fans will also get new music connected to the project. An accompanying 18-track live album featuring previously unreleased recordings from the tour will be released alongside the movie. The album is expected to include performances from both Michael’s solo career and songs connected to his earlier work with the pop duo Wham!.
The theatrical presentation will also include a short film created by photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney, which features rare interview audio from Michael and behind-the-scenes footage connected to the famous “Faith” music video.
For many fans, the release represents a powerful tribute to the late singer, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 53. The new film captures Michael at the height of his fame, when his distinctive voice, songwriting talent, and charismatic stage presence made him one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
More than three decades after the original tour, George Michael: The Faith Tour offers audiences a chance to revisit the energy and influence of an era-defining performer. With restored concert footage, rare archival material, and new music, the project celebrates the lasting impact of George Michael’s artistry and ensures that his legacy continues to resonate with new generations of fans.
